Are You Still Getting Ready to Get Ready? How To Break the Never-ending Preparation Cycle.
Do you find yourself constantly getting ready to get ready? When you stay in preparation mode, you are moving, staying busy but not moving forward with your tasks. It’s like being on hamster wheel–going, going, being active but not actually getting anywhere.
I’ve heard it said that the people who take action do better, get farther and make more progress than the ones who spend a lot of time getting ready or preparing.
Preparation is good, don’t get me wrong. Of course you want to prepare and not put out half-baked work, but at some point you need to stop getting ready and take the action.
Today I’m going to share 3 steps you can take to put an end to this cycle and actually get it done.
The people who take timely action make more progress than those who spend endless time preparing.
So here are the three steps:
Make a Decision
Many times constant prepping is just a symptom of something else like fear of failure, insecurity, or perfectionism. If you’re tired of running in place, make the decision that you are putting an end to putting it off. Whether it’s taking the important step of starting your own business, learning a new skill, losing weight–whatever it is–the first step starts in your mind with a decision.
Set Aside A Specific Amount of Time for Preparation
Like I said earlier, preparation is necessary, it’s just not good to stay there. So set aside some time to prepare. Here are some examples of preparation:
If you want to learn how to build or promote your business online, then take that course or read that book that will give you the insight and steps on the How-To’s. Notice I said “take that course” not COURSES. Read the book, not BOOKS. You don’t need to take in a ton of information at once. Take one step at a time and move forward with what you’ve learned.
If you’ve been looking to get into business for yourself by joining a network marketing company, then take some time to look into the companies that interest you, but only look into a few or you’ll spend too much time doing this because there are hundreds of network marketing companies.
If you want to lose weight and start an exercise program, it’s a good idea–especially if you have some pre-existing conditions, to check with your doctor before starting.
These are all examples of prep modes. Once you do those, then it’s time to stop preparing. You’ve got enough information and it’s time to move to Step 3…
Take Imperfect Action
Just do it! It doesn’t have to be pretty, but it does have to be started.
Take imperfect action. Your plan and action don't have to be perfect, but they do have to be started.
Start small, take action, make tweaks and adjustments as you go, but keep going!
